Dry times by product
These are typical times for normal summer conditions:
- Water-based traffic paint: dry to touch in 15–30 minutes, traffic-ready in 1–2 hours
- Oil-based (solvent) paint: traffic-ready in 2–4 hours
- Thermoplastic: cools and opens to traffic in minutes
- Epoxy (warehouse floors): 12–24 hours before forklift traffic
What slows drying down
Cool temperatures, high humidity, shade and heavy application all slow curing. Overnight jobs in spring and fall take longer, which is why we cone off lines until they're firm.
Why driving on wet paint is a problem
Tires pick up wet paint and track it across the lot, leaving smears that cost more to clean than the original striping. Leave cones in place until the crew removes them.
Frequently asked questions
Can people walk on fresh paint?
Light foot traffic is usually fine after 30 minutes, but it's best to wait until the crew says it's ready.
Will rain ruin fresh lines?
Rain in the first hour can wash out water-based paint. We check the forecast and won't paint if rain is expected.
Do you stripe overnight?
Yes. Overnight striping means the paint cures before your morning traffic arrives.
