Typical aisle widths
Common ranges used in Massachusetts zoning bylaws:
- 90-degree parking, two-way: 22–24 feet
- 60-degree parking, one-way: 16–18 feet
- 45-degree parking, one-way: 12–14 feet
- Fire lanes: generally 20 feet minimum
One-way vs. two-way
Angled parking works best with one-way aisles, marked with arrows at each end. Two-way aisles almost always use 90-degree stalls.

Can I narrow aisles to add stalls?
Only down to your town's minimum. Switching to angled one-way aisles is often the legal way to gain space.
Do arrows need to be painted?
For one-way aisles, yes. Arrows and "DO NOT ENTER" markings prevent wrong-way driving.
What about delivery trucks?
Loading areas need wider turning room. We plan truck routes separately from car aisles.
